policy and research officer

About the role

We are seeking to recruit a self-confident and experienced candidate, with well developed analytical skills and who is well organised and able to present their ideas, to undertake the Policy and Research brief within the Housing Operations team at Sage. You will be based in our central London office and support the Housing Operations management team to maintain up to date housing policies, undertaking research and data analysis in support of these policies. The ideal candidate will have a relevant degree (e.g. Economics, Law, Statistics) and be able to demonstrate an ability to grasp issues quickly and communicate clearly.

We need a team player who can demonstrate initiative and resilience. A willingness to undertake independent personal development to go along with support we will provide, will help the right candidate succeed.  You should have 2-3 years previous work experience in a related area or in a discipline where the skills described her have been utilised

An eye for detail as well as ability to manage a diverse range of tasks is a definite plus in this role, where good organisation and self-motivation are musts. It goes without saying that you are self-confident since you will need to present your proposals to experienced managers who might push back against the difficult conclusions of your policy analysis and research. You will be supported in all of this work and receive appropriate training and development.

Key duties include

  • Develop a prioritised policy review programme with managers and in liaison with the company secretary seek the approval to any amendments to Sage policy.
  • Undertake specific, focused pieces of policy work under the supervision of the relevant functional manager
  • Work with similar staff in established housing associations, service providers and other relevant organisations to identify good practice and seek to apply this to Sage’s operations
  • Actively seek to improve working practices and customers service where possible
  • Undertake benchmarking exercises to aid target setting, policy and practice
  • Coordinate the customer feedback programme, ensuring reports are prepared for LT or Board as necessary
  • Analyse customer feedback to identify trends, areas for improvement and feed this back to residents in our regular communications
  • Analyse CORE and other data sets to aid policy development and the customer experience

About you

  • A good degree in a relevant area
  • Possess an interest in housing and a passion for developing evidence based policy and practice
  • Well developed written and verbal communication skills
  • An enquiring outlook and a willingness to learn ( and learn independently)
  • Clear and demonstrable analytical skills
  • Knowledge of tools for analysing data and a good understanding of statistical techniques


  • A higher education qualification (e.g. Degree)
